The new facility is a satellite expansion attached to the north side of Terminal 1, built with a hybrid steel-and-timber design using Japanese cedar, oak, and larch. It’s Terminal 1’s first major expansion since the terminal originally opened, and it’s designed specifically to fix one of Haneda’s longest-standing passenger complaints: bus transfers to the aircraft.

Why it matters if you’re flying through Tokyo
Fixed boarding bridges sound minor until you’ve stood on a crowded shuttle bus on the tarmac with luggage in hand — this expansion removes that step entirely for the gates it serves. The tradeoff is distance: the new satellite sits roughly a 15-minute walk from Terminal 1’s existing security checkpoints, so build in extra time if your gate is at the far end, especially with kids, heavy luggage, or a tight connection.
Which flights actually use the new terminal
This is important: Terminal 1 is domestic-only. If you’re arriving in Japan from overseas, you’ll land at Terminal 3, not here. The new satellite is relevant if you’re booked on a Japan Airlines or other domestic carrier flight connecting onward from Tokyo — for example, flying Haneda–Naha (Okinawa) or Haneda–New Chitose (Hokkaido) after an international arrival, or simply taking a domestic hop for a TIFE weekend trip.

Getting around the new space
- Allow at least 20–25 minutes from Terminal 1 security to your gate if it’s in the new satellite wing.
- The autonomous “iino” mobility pods run free from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and carry up to four passengers — useful with kids, heavy bags, or mobility needs.
- The Forest Lounge is limited to holders of specific affiliated credit cards — check your card’s benefits before counting on access.
- If you’re connecting from an international arrival at Terminal 3, budget extra time to get to Terminal 1’s domestic side by monorail, bus, or the connecting walkway/shuttle.
