Everyone: Japanese locals, expats, international residents, students, tourists and short-term visitors. All nationalities are welcome. Events are for adults unless the event page says otherwise.

No. English is the main language at TIFE events and many members speak several languages. Japanese participants often join to practise English, so it is also an easy way to make Japanese friends.

Yes. Most TIFE participants come on their own. Tell the host it’s your first time and they’ll introduce you, so you’re never left standing alone.

Yes. Visitors are welcome and it’s a popular way to experience real Tokyo social life. RSVP on Meetup. Note that the TIFE LINE open chat is only for residents of Japan.

RSVP is always free. Event fees are paid at the venue and vary:

• Language exchanges: from about ¥500
• Outdoor bootcamp: ¥500
• Sports classes: ¥2,000–¥2,500
• AR sports (HADO): ¥2,500
• Karaoke party: about ¥3,000 (¥500 off with Instagram)

Most events last two to three hours. The exact time is on each Meetup event page.

Yes. Please RSVP on Meetup for every event so the organiser can plan venue space. It’s free and takes under a minute.

Change your RSVP to “Not going” on Meetup as early as you can. Many events have limited space, so this frees your spot for someone on the waitlist.

Usually just yourself and the event fee. Anything extra, such as sportswear, indoor shoes or a towel, is listed on the event page.

Yes. Every event is designed for first-timers, whether it’s your first kickboxing class, language exchange or karaoke night.

No. Unless an event page clearly says otherwise, TIFE events are social meetups focused on friendship and cultural exchange, not dating.

Photos and videos are often taken and may be shared on TIFE channels. If you don’t want your image used, tell the organisers in writing before the event, as explained in the event terms.
