Who founded TIFE and when?Founder▼
TIFE was founded in 2015 by Peter Chen — a multicultural entrepreneur born in Taiwan, raised in Costa Rica, and based in Tokyo for over 18 years. Fluent in English, Japanese, Spanish, and Mandarin, Peter built TIFE to be the community he wished had existed when he first arrived in Japan.

TIFE events are open to everyone — Japanese locals, expats, international residents, students, tourists, and short-term visitors. All nationalities and backgrounds are warmly welcome. Most events are open to all adults unless otherwise stated on the specific event page.
Do I need to speak Japanese to join?Language▼
No Japanese language skills are required. English is the primary language used at TIFE events, and many participants speak multiple languages. Events are designed to be fully accessible regardless of Japanese ability.
Is this suitable for people joining alone?Solo▼
Absolutely. The majority of TIFE participants attend events on their own. Our events are specifically structured to make solo attendees feel welcome and help them meet new people naturally. You’ll be chatting with someone new within minutes of arriving.
Can tourists or short-term visitors participate?Visitors▼
Yes. Tourists and short-term visitors are very welcome at all TIFE events. Our events are a popular way for visitors to experience authentic Tokyo social life while meeting locals and internationals. No long-term residency required.
