Every room has a touch-screen remote, called a denmoku. Switch it to English and search by artist or title.

English songs are everywhere

Japanese karaoke systems carry huge English catalogues, plus K-pop, C-pop, Spanish and more.

Start with a group song

Pick something everyone knows. It’s the fastest ice-breaker in the room.

Share the mic

Queue one song at a time so everyone gets a turn. Duets are a great way to meet people.

Use the tambourine

Rooms usually have tambourines or maracas. Cheering for others is half the fun.

Can’t sing? Perfect.

Nobody is there to judge. The worst singers often get the loudest cheers.

How much does the TIFE karaoke party cost?

Entry is about ¥3,000. Follow @tokyointernationalmeetup on Instagram and show your profile at the door to get ¥500 off. RSVP on Meetup is free; the exact price is on each event page.

Can I join if I can’t sing?

Yes. Most people are not good singers and nobody is judged. You can sing duets or group songs, shake a tambourine, or just enjoy the room. Singing is never required.

Can I come to karaoke alone?

Yes. Most people come on their own. Group songs break the ice fast, so you will be singing with new people within the first few songs.

Are there English songs at Japanese karaoke?

Yes. Japanese karaoke systems have large English song catalogues, plus Korean, Chinese, Spanish and other languages. You search and queue songs on a touch-screen tablet in the room.

How do I find the karaoke room on the day?

The venue address is on the Meetup event page. The room number is shared in the TIFE LINE chat on the day, so join before you go. No LINE? Message the organiser through the Meetup event page.

How often are TIFE music events held?

TIFE runs several karaoke nights a month in central Tokyo, in areas such as Shibuya and Shinbashi, plus special editions like a Taiwanese KTV night. Upcoming dates appear in the calendar on this page and on the TIFE Meetup group.
