Shuri Castle Main Hall Reopens November 23, 2026: Tickets, Time Slots and How to Book

If Okinawa is on your list, a date just became a deadline: the main hall of Shuri Castle is scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, November 23, 2026, a national holiday, roughly seven years after the fire of October 31, 2019 destroyed nine buildings at the World Heritage site. A completion ceremony is planned for November 22. Entry to the main hall is reported to use reserved 30-minute time slots, which means the popular dates can sell out before you land in Naha. Here is what is confirmed, what comes from a single newsletter, and what is still closed.

What is still closed

  • The courtyard in front of the main hall has not been restored and remains closed, per Japan Guide.
  • The buildings that flanked the main hall are reduced to foundations. Their reconstruction is planned, but no schedule has been announced.

So go for the restored main hall and the surviving gates, not for a fully rebuilt complex. Reports we reviewed do not say whether the other eight destroyed buildings have been rebuilt.
