On the first Friday of every month, TIFE takes over HADO ARENA Odaiba for an AR sports night. You wear a headset, fire energy balls with your arm, and battle in mixed teams of Japanese locals, expats and travelers. Nobody has played before, so nobody is better than you.

What is HADO?

HADO is an augmented reality (AR) sport. A headset puts a virtual battlefield over the real room, and a sensor on your arm turns your movements into attacks. Think dodgeball crossed with a video game, played with your whole body.

Why it’s an easy way to make friends

Talking to strangers is hard. Being on the same team is easy. After one round of dodging energy balls together, you already have something to talk about.

How the night runs

  1. 7:30 pm · Check in and gear up

    Meet at HADO ARENA. Put on the headset and arm sensor, then the staff explain the controls and safety.

  2. Team draw

    The staff split everyone into balanced teams, so solo players are mixed in from the start.

  3. Battle rounds

    Several scored rounds with energy balls and shields. The first one is practice.

  4. 9:30 pm · Finish and swap contacts

    Talk over the best shots and trade LINE or Instagram with your teammates.

What to bring

  • Clean indoor sports shoes.Required: you can’t play in outdoor shoes. Rental is ¥500 if you forget.
  • Clothes you can move in.You will sweat a little.
  • Water and a small towel.The rounds are short but intense.
  • Nothing else.Headsets, sensors and teams are all handled at the venue.

Getting there

HADO ARENA Odaiba is on the 5th floor of Aqua City Odaiba East Building (1-7-1 Daiba, Minato City), a short walk from Odaiba-Kaihinkoen Station on the Yurikamome Line. Can’t find it? Ask in the TIFE LINE chat. Open in Google Maps.

Questions before your first HADO night

Do I need AR, VR or gaming experience?
No. HADO is easy to pick up, and the staff explain the controls before the first round, which is practice. Most people at TIFE’s HADO nights are playing for the first time.
How much does HADO AR sports cost with TIFE?
¥2,500 per person, paid at the venue. The AR headset and sensors are included. Indoor shoe rental costs ¥500 if you need it. RSVP on Meetup is free.
When and where is it?
The first Friday of every month, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at HADO ARENA Odaiba, Aqua City Odaiba East Building 5F, near Odaiba-Kaihinkoen Station.
Can I come alone?
Yes. The staff form the teams, so solo players are mixed into a team from the start. Many people come alone.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No. TIFE events are English-friendly, and the game itself needs very few words. Japanese locals join too, so it’s also a relaxed way to practise Japanese.
What should I wear?
Clothes you can move in and clean indoor sports shoes. Outdoor shoes aren’t allowed on the court. Bring water and a small towel.
Is it good for tourists?
Yes. Odaiba is easy to reach from central Tokyo, there’s nothing to buy in advance, and you play with local people instead of only watching.
