Curious about airsoft but assume it’s only for hardcore players with their own gear? This night is built for the opposite: people who have never held an airsoft gun. Everything is rented for you, the rules are explained in English, and you play on a TIFE team with other first-timers. Here’s exactly what happens, what it costs and what to wear.

What is airsoft (サバゲー)?

Group of airsoft players in protective goggles and masks at an indoor field in Tokyo

Airsoft, known in Japan as survival game (サバイバルゲーム, “サバゲー”), is a team game played with replica guns that fire small 6 mm plastic BBs. Two teams compete in short games such as eliminating the other side or capturing a flag.

  • Honour system: when you’re hit, you raise your hand, call “hit” and leave the game
  • Indoor field: walls, corridors and cover, so games are fast and close-range
  • Teamwork over skill: communication and tactics matter more than experience

Your airsoft night, step by step

  1. 7:30 pm: meet at Brave Point. Please arrive on time; check-in, ID check and gear take a few minutes. Tell the TIFE host it’s your first time.
  2. Get your gear. Rental airsoft gun, eye and face protection and other equipment are handed out and fitted.
  3. Safety briefing & rules. Staff explain how the equipment works, the safety rules and the game rules, with English instructions.
  4. Team formation. TIFE forms its own team, so solo participants play together from the start.
  5. Play a series of short games. Different scenarios, quick resets, plenty of time to learn as you go.
  6. 9:30 pm: finish. Hand back the gear, take a team photo, and swap contacts with your new teammates.

Does airsoft hurt? Safety for beginners

Honest answer: a hit stings, briefly. A plastic BB can feel like a quick flick and may leave a small red mark on bare skin. Most first-timers are surprised how quickly they forget about it once the game starts.

  • Wear long sleeves and long pants if you have sensitive skin or dislike pain; it makes a big difference
  • Eye and face protection stays on at all times on the field
  • Follow the staff’s safety rules; beginners are guided carefully throughout
  • Tell the staff before the game if you have an injury or health concern
